THE HISTORY OF BAYELSA FUTURE
As Bayelsa people, we are born great and divinely lucky to be proud beneficiaries of the only homogeneous Ijaw state in the world. We are blessed with enormous natural resources, excellent coast lines and people potentials to be the finest in the world. We are supposed to respect our precious state, safeguard it and develop it to become a reference point for others.
We may not be content with the existing situation of things but there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. Historic wrongs occasioned by the skewed and perverted Nigerian- styled federalism at the center: institutionalized insensitivity to physical planning and regulatory controls in the state and an ingrained propensity to be haphazard and irregular at the individual level have resulted into what we have today.
We cannot blame our forebears because they lacked the education and technology to take effective action. We cannot blame the sun and stars since they have always been cross- generational emblems of illumination for humans. But one thing is sure: Our children and children's children will not forgive us because while we have the knowledge, the technology and the spiritual support networks to make things work, we have consistently allied with unpatriotism, pessimism, passivism and mental weakness.
The time to reverse the course and write the history of tomorrow is now.At the next Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Summit, we shall start the discourse for creating the History of Bayelsa State Future. BEHOLD THE RESOURCE PERSONS.
